La Paz and Espíritu Santo
North of Los Cabos the Sea of Cortés opens into the islands. Espíritu Santo, a protected biosphere reserve off La Paz, has the anchorages, the sea lion colony, and the water clarity that make a multi day itinerary worth the passage. Selected yachts in the Otaduy fleet run these trips with overnight cabins and full crew.
Espíritu Santo
The island is uninhabited and protected, with a string of coves on its western side that shelter a yacht overnight. Days are spent between beaches, snorkeling on rock reef, and the sandbars where the water turns the pale turquoise the Sea of Cortés is known for.
Los Islotes
At the north end of Espíritu Santo, the sea lion colony at Los Islotes is one of the few places where guests can swim near sea lions in open water. Conditions and seasonal rules decide the approach on the day; the crew briefs everyone before anyone gets in.
Planning the passage
The run from Los Cabos to La Paz is a genuine passage, planned around season, weather, and the group’s appetite for time underway. Itineraries usually build in the East Cape and Cerralvo channel on the way north. These trips are put together individually with the operations team rather than booked off a calendar. Departures are not limited to Los Cabos: trips can start from La Paz or Loreto and run one way, which shortens the passage and puts more of the trip inside the islands. The overnight itinerary builder shows the anchorages and calculates each leg as you plan.
Life aboard
Nights are spent at anchor in the coves on the west side of the island, not in a marina. The overnight yachts in the fleet, GO, Cardinale, CIAO, and Telemachus, sleep between 4 and 9 guests in cabins with full crew aboard, so days are swimming, snorkeling, and the sandbars, and evenings are dinner on deck in a bay with no other lights. Each yacht page lists cabins and overnight capacity.
What to bring
Pack soft bags rather than hard suitcases, they stow better in cabins. Swimsuits, reef safe sunscreen, a windproof layer for passages and evenings, and any personal medication. Snorkeling gear is aboard, and the galley is provisioned to your group’s preferences before departure.
